Successful Drone Forum

“Security vs. Privacy: Drones—Overseas and Now at Home” was the theme of NWSUBPEP’s community forum on Friday, September 20.  We welcomed as our panelists Anthony Tindall, Joe Scarry, and Marcia Bernsten.

Mr. Tindall, who serves on the Military and Foreign Affairs Commission of Americans for Democratic Action (ADA), spoke of drone attacks that the United States has perpetrated in several different countries.  These attacks involve unmanned aerial vehicles that are armed with weapons and operated remotely from locations in the United States.  The government may refer to these attacks as surgical strikes, but the accuracy suggested by that terminology is not possible for remote attacks with a time gap between the site of the remote management and pictures from the site of the attacks.

What Would A World Without NATO Look Like?

With the upcoming NATO meetings in Chicago in May we thought it apropos to explore some fundamental questions: What is NATO? What role do they play in the world? Why do people protest? Why has Chicago instituted ordinances that effectively criminalize free speech? The awesome panel we have assembled will be addressing all these questions.

2011 advisory board meeting

Northwest Suburban Peace & Education Project established an advisory board AdvisoryBd2011cwhen we incorporated. The purpose is fairly straight-forward -- provide our group with valuable input and advice. We convene a meeting of the advisory board every year, usually in June, at which time we discuss our accomplishments and challenges and solicit input from the board members. Several years we decided to open the annual meeting to interested community members. Please read the report from this year's meeting held June 25, 2011.
