Welcome to our Zines... What in the world is a Zine!?

We are so glad you asked! According to Wikipedia, a " zine (an abbreviation of the word magazine; pronounced /ˈziːn/ "zeen") is most commonly a small circulation publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest usually reproduced via photocopier on a variety of colored paper stock.

A popular definition includes that circulation must be 5,000 or less, although in practice the significant majority are produced in editions of less than 100, and profit is not the primary intent of publication."

OK, but what does that really mean? To us at NWSUBPEP, it is a means of artistically expressioning peace, in poems, pictures, and stories. We encourage and invite submissions from students and community members as part of our continuing outreach to those that share our passion for peace.

Many, many thanks to Ron Stavoe and the House of Doolittle in Arlington Heights who donated the time and material to print our latest issue. We were not able to print a zine last year. Our fundraising efforts fell short. We were determined to print an issue this year even if it meant making a few xerox copies. Ron heard about our plight and stepped forward. Thanks again!

We are proud to announce Issue #7 of the zine (released March 2016). Take a look...
