Issues surrounding the ASVAB test

There are several issues related to the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test.

District 214 and the ASVAB test

The ASVAB test is administered once for the entire student body in District 214; usually in November. Northwest Suburban Peace and Education Project approached District 214 administration in September 2008 expressing concern about the ASVAB test particularly since none of the published information about the test mentions that the results are forwarded to the military. Our request was that the district change the recruiter release option so that the results are not provided to military recruiters (option 8).

Recent developments in Maryland

April 13, 2010 - Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley signed a measure into law today that prohibits automatic release of student information to military recruiters gathered as a result of the administration of the ASVAB (Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery) test. Northwest Suburban Peace and Education Project would like to acknowledge the hard work of Pat Elder and the Maryland Coalition to Protect Student Privacy for his hard work on this issue.
